Car Accident Lawyers Gold Coast

Time limits for a Queensland car accident claim

For a Gold Coast accident, check the state where the collision happened before relying on a deadline. Queensland claim requirements should not be assumed to apply to a crash over the border in New South Wales.

More than one deadline can apply

Notifying the CTP insurer and commencing court proceedings are different steps. A police report or a claim for vehicle repairs is not a substitute for an injury claim notice. Ask the lawyer to identify the required steps and dates in your matter.

Unidentified or unregistered vehicles

If a driver left the scene or the vehicle was unregistered, there may be a claim involving the Nominal Defendant. These matters can have special notice and investigation requirements. Preserve evidence and seek advice promptly.

If time has already passed

Do not assume that a missed date can be extended, or that a delay necessarily ends every option. The answer depends on the requirement, the reason for delay and the circumstances. Tell the lawyer the full timeline, including earlier advice or insurer contact.

Information to bring

Bring the accident date, when symptoms were noticed, any date you first instructed a lawyer, and copies of notices or insurer letters. Tell the lawyer if the injured person is a child or has difficulty managing their own affairs.
